Tuskegee Airmen to convene

ATLANTA (AFNS) -- Space and Missile Systems Center commander Lt. Gen. Lester Lyles, new second vice president of the Tuskegee Airmen Inc., will host panels discussing present-day issues during the organization's annual convention here, Aug. 7-13.

Tuskegee Airmen was established in 1973 and named in honor of the only Army base used to train African-American flight crews during World War II when all services were segregated.

The military panel will discuss tools for military success and getting military aerospace personnel and grooming them for senior leadership positions. Lt. Gen. Lloyd "Fig" Newton, Air Force assistant vice chief of staff, is scheduled to moderate the panel.

Retired Lt. Gen. Don Cromer, president of Hughes Space Systems, is scheduled to lead a panel discussing transitioning from a military career to a civilian profession.

William E. Leftwich III, deputy assistant secretary of defense for equal opportunity, will be the guest speaker at a military luncheon Aug. 10. Leftwich also coordinates Defense Department support for the program. The convention is open to everyone.
