Tidelands

JSDH article page 183
The Montgomery Freeway in the 1950s began the transition to the Interstate 5 highway system that opened new access to the dredged-in Tidelands that appear in the Rozelle aerial photo of 1956 as light-colored land south of the Navy's mothball fleet. In 2008, construction began on the $30 million Marina Gateway Plaza hotel and recreational project near Pepper Park and the new Arts and Recreation Center.
