Old Schoolhouse Square

The National Ranch School District was formed in 1871 and built a high school in 1882 at 9th St. and E Avenue called the Academy, until demolished in 1969 for Old Schoolhouse Square. A 2nd high school was built in 1883 at Roosevelt and West Avenue known as the 16th Street School, demolished in 1923.

West Avenue turns to left from National City Blvd. at 18th Street, leading to the site of the 16th Street School that was located near today's Southwest Paint and Body.
