SONDERKOMMANDO REVOLT

On October 7, 1944 the camp resistance informed the SonderKommandos that the authorities were planning on killing all of the SonderKommandos. The SonderKommados were already in the process of planning a revolt. They had been given weapons smuggled into camp by the women who worked in the munitions plants. The revolt initially had been planned to take place over the entire camp, but the news hastened what they had planned, the SonderKommando decided to fight on their own. Most of the SonderKommando lived in Crematory 4, hence the revolt began there, and the building was set on fire. In Crematories 2 & 3 they began to fire at the guards. 2 Germans were killed at crematory 2. Some SonderKommados escaped to Raisko, where they were recaptured and killed. The revolt in 3 & 4 never was able to meet up with the revolt in 2 because the SS kept the 2 contained. Crematory 5 SonderKommandos escaped to the little wood, they held their position until they ran out of the ammo. About 750 SonderKommando died in the battle, of the 663 left 200 more were shot that night. Only 212 were left to live, and continue working. 3 SS were killed, and Crematory 4 was destroyed.
