OPERATION STRANGLE



The aim of the operation was "to reduce the flow of enemy supplies far below requirement" (Francis 67). There was a huge assault against Cassino, which included planes from the 99th squadron. They were sent throughout Italy to join the 79th in the operations. They were also support for ground troops. On D-Day the 99th flew 31 sorties and dropped 30,000 pounds of bombs on enemy positions" (69). These missions continued through the months.
