C. ALFRED (CHIEF) ANDERSON

White instructors mostly taught cadets at Tuskegee. But African-American civilian pilots taught the succeeding classes. Chief Anderson was the supervisor of this phase of flight training. He had a reputation for "providing as much assistance as needed to get a cadet through the primary levelŠand for spotting talent and for being honest" (Scott and Womack 160-161). Cadets who needed more assistance were given random precheck flights in order to prepare them for the official check ride that would be their final evaluation.
