The Tourists of Mission Beach
If there is one thing that Mission Beach has a lot of (in addition to
water, sand, and sun) is tourists. It is one of the most popular places to
vacation. The area is even set up for tourists in mind. Many of the
apartments are made into summer vacation rentals. Belmont park
attracts many people to its rides and the roller coaster during the summer.
The water is perfect. The sand is great. San Diego is nice and warm. The
average monthly temperature ranges from 71.4ºF in August to 55.2ºF in
January. There is only 9.45 inches of precipitation a year as well. Many
people come to surf at Mission Beach. It is very popular and the surf board
has become a sign of Mission Beach. The picture to the right is just an
example of the people that used to come with their long boards. 2501
Tourists stay at Mission Beach for wide range of lengths
of time. Some just come for the day to go to the beach.
Others stay the entire summer, sometimes longer. Depending on how long one
stays, there are different appealing activities. Those tourists that spend a
short time usually enjoy the recreational activities. These include water
skiing, jet skiing, surfing, and Belmont Park. The ones that stay longer
usually enjoy more passive activities such as walking on the boardwalk,
playing volleyball, or simply enjoying the beach.
The picture to the left is
that of one of the attractions at Belmont Park. A guys is strapped into
rubber bands attached to two poles while a pretty young lady pulls him down
and launches him upward with the help of a trampoline. The picture to the
right is that of the park at the jetty at South Mission Beach. You can
always find people playing volleyball there. 2502
Most of the tourists that come to Mission Beach are
families. The land-lords of the beach rentals like this
because the singles that rent places often have more parties. In addition to
that, there are plenty of lifeguards and the place is somewhat safe for
children during the day. Another sign that tourist season has started is the
lifeguard towers with people on them and the red trucks on the beach. The
lifeguard, beach chair and surfboard have always been a sign of Mission
Beach. The protection of the lives of Mission Beach has always been
important to the lifeguards that serve here. They all sorts of training
because the water conditions change daily. Also, they often keep the beach
divided in the summer between the surfers and the swimmers. The pictures
above are of the lifeguards of Mission Beach. The pictures below are of the
lifeguard station. It hasn't changed much over the years. 2503
