July 29 - 2 Austrian river monitors bombarded Belgrade, and Serbian guns returned fire from Topcider height
Aug. 2 - Serbia mobilized army of 489,500 in six days, began raids into Austria along Bosnian border.
Aug. 5 - Montenegro declared war on Austria and began attack with 50,000 militia against Austrian troops along border
Aug. 12 - Austrian army of 200,000 led by Gen. Oskar Potiorek invaded Serbia across Rivers Saba and Drina. The Austrian 44th Regiment killed all men and children in village of Sabac.
Aug. 14 - Austrian VIII Corps began attack on Cer Ridge.
Aug. 16 - Serbian army led by Marshal Radomir Putnik began counterattack against Austrians at the Jadar River.
Aug. 20 - Battle of the Cer won by Serbia, the first major Allied victory of the war. Austrians retreated to the Drina River, killed 150 peasants at Lesnica.
Aug. 22 - Serbia retook Drina River, Austrian 6th Army retreated into Bosnia.
Aug. 24 - Serbia won the Battle of the Jadar and retook Sabac; Austrian army retreated from Serbia.
Sep. 7 - Austrian army of Potiorek began 2nd invasion of Serbia, and the Serbian army of Putnik fought for 10 days along the Drina River, but then were forced to retreat to Belgrade
Nov. 2 - Serbia and Russia declared war on Turkey that had entered the war Oct. 29 on the side of Germany and the Central Powers. The Russian I Caucasian Corps invaded Armenia but driven back by Turkish counterattack Nov. 11.
Nov. 5 - Austrian army of Potiorek began 3rd invasion of Serbia, took Belgrade on Dec. 2.
Dec. 3 - Serbian army of Putnik was resupplied by the French, counterattacked and defeated the Austrians at the Kolubara by Dec. 9 and drove them out of Serbia. Austria lost 230,000 casualties out of 450,000 troops, Serbia lost 170,000 of 400,000.
