Autochrome

1903 - Dec. 17 the Lumiere brothers Louis and Auguste patented the autochrome process, but did not reveal it until May 30, 1904.

1907 - Autochrome plates became available for sale; each plate was a unique positive image and could not be printed or duplicated.

1912 - G. S. Whitfield in Britain patented the Paget color system that used a color screen plate and was marketed by the Paget Prize Plate Company.

1914 - Jean-Baptiste Tournassoud in the French army began making thousands of plates, became director of the Army Photographic and Cinematographic Service.

1915 - Jules Gervais Courtellemont made autochrome plates of the Battles of the Marne and Verdun.
