Hollywood's Revival
The revival of Hollywood after its postwar crisis began in the 1950's with widescreen formats such as Cinerama. Mono sound was gradually replaced by stereo by the 1970s and digital sound by the 1990s. Film exhibition underwent a major revolution with the decline of the movie palace and the rise of the multiplex. Hollywood as a physical place declined until revitalization began in the 1990s.
